COMMIPHORA MUKUL EXTRACT Botanical Extracts

The extract is derived form the exudate of Commiphora mukul plant belonging to family Burseraceae. Commiphora mukul is commonly called Guggul. It is mainly used as a Hypolipidemic. Guggul was primarily used to prevent this condition by lowering serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It is said to treat and control rheumatoid arthritis. It is able to reduce pain and morning sickness, significantly. The major phytoconstituent is guggulsterones. These compounds have been shown to be responsible for the lipid-lowering actions of guggul.

Scientific Evidence

In clinical and preclinical studies, Commiphora mukul has been shown to contribute antihyperlipidemic. The best double-blind placebo-controlled study of guggul for reducing cholesterol enrolled 61 individuals and followed them for 24 weeks. The results after 24 weeks of treatment showed that the treated group experienced an 11.7% decrease in total cholesterol, along with a 12.7% decrease in LDL ("bad" cholesterol), a 12% decrease in triglycerides, and an 11.1% decrease in the total cholesterol/HDL ("good" cholesterol) ratio. These improvements were significantly greater than what was seen in the placebo group. One test tube study found that guggulsterones also prevented oxidations of LDL cholesterol, which may suggest another action that helps guggul prevent atherosclerosis. Scientific studies have also reported its use as Coronary heart disease and more. Some adverse side effects are reported but these side effects need to be confirmed.
