Sennosides are hydroxyanthracene glycosides derived from senna leaves known to botanical world as Cassia angustifolia . They have been used as natural and safe laxatives in traditional as well as modern systems of medicine.

BP method is popularly used all over the world. As per BP method, E (1%, 1cm) value of 240 or 200 for color development at 515nm and 500nm respectively) is used for estimating Sennosides. USP employs spectroflurometric method. There is an increased demand nowadays to use HPLC method declaring Sennosides A + B.
